HARROWSMITH-VERONA PASTORAL CHARGE    OFFICIAL BOARD MEETING  NOVEMBER 29, 2010

HELD AT ST. PAULS UNITED CHURCH

 

MEMBERS PRESENT - Margaret Smith, Gayle Robertson, Sheila Anthony, Mary Barr, Andy Adamson, Dawn Sieben, Elaine Lagier, Nancy Moore-Carr, Rob Tapscott, Millie Cuthill, Barb Joyce, Vera Brown, Barbara Stewart, Darlene Nicol, Lynda Price, Marni Pedersen, Don Coleman, Erma Bracken, John McDougall, Glenda Turner      A quorum was present.

 

1.  Constitution of the Court - The meeting was opened by the chair, Erma Bracken, with the Constitution of the Court at 7:05 p.m.

 

2.  Opening Devotions - Glenda Turner read the "Law of the Garbage Truck".  Volunteer for the next meeting is Nancy Moore-Carr.

 

3.  Adoption of the agenda - Moved by Gayle Robertson and seconded by Rob Tapscott that the agenda be approved with one addition of the budget for 2011.  Carried.

 

4.  Acceptance of the Minutes of September 27, 2010 -  Glenda Turner read and moved the acceptance of the minutes.  It was seconded by Nancy Moore-Carr.  Carried.

 

5.  Business Arising from the Minutes

            a) Watkins Fund Application - We will apply again in January 2011.

            b) "Making Connections" with High Park United Church in Sarnia - Some info from our churches will be sent to them this week.

            c) Vision with a Mission - No meeting.  Needed another rep from St. Paul's.

 

6.  Correspondence

            a) Letter from United Church Conference regarding insurance - Don Coleman reported that our insurance is adequate at this time so will not respond.

 

7.  Minister's Report - Lynda Price reported that with Christmas approaching, it is a busy time.  Thanks was extended for the "Hip Happening News" which is new this year.

 

8.  Treasurer's Report, 2011 Budget and Website - Moved by Don Coleman and seconded by Millie Cuthill that the treasurer's report be accepted at prepared.  Carried.

Moved by Don Coleman and seconded by Nancy Moore-Carr that the 2011 budget be accepted as prepared.  Carried.

Moved by Don Coleman and seconded by Nancy Moore-Carr that Trinity pay 55% and St. Paul's 45% of the monthly allocation for 2011.  Carried.

Moved by Millie Cuthill and seconded by Rob Tapscott that our Mission and Service target be set at $18,000. for 2011. Carried.   Don Coleman also reported that there have been 1531 hits to our website since February 2010.  Thanks was extended to Don Coleman for all his work with the finances and the website.

 

9.  Committee Reports

a) Ministry and Personnel - Our secretary Katharine will be away in Spain next August so Ministry and Personnel have lots of time to respond to that need.

b) Manse - A meeting is to be held December 1 at 5:00 p.m.

c) Joint Worship - Christmas Eve service is at 6:00 at St. Paul's and 7:30 at Trinity There will be joint services on Dec. 26th at St. Paul's and January 2 at Trinity.

d) Presbytery - St. Paul's needs a new representative to Presbytery.

e) Manse Liason - No meeting.

f) Trinity Reports

-Session - Millie Cuthill reported that the committee is revising the membership lists and removing some people.  Christmas cards will be sent out soon.  Breakfast for Moms of the Playgroup are held on the third Thursday.  A choir concert is to be held Dec. 3, 2010.

Stewards -  Andy Adamson reported that a Theatre Night was held Oct. 28, a pig roast on October 23.  In January there will be Saturday morning breakfasts served at Trinity.  Also on March 5 an Old Time Canadian Dinner will be held.

United Church Women - The Mid Week event was held November 2 in Omemee.  Trinity United Church Women sponsored one stove for Guatemela at $225.  The next meeting will be held February 9, 2011.

Sunday School - The children are enjoying the music that Annabelle Twiddy is assisting with.

Trustees - no report

 

g) St. Paul's

- Council - The Council is revising membership lists.  They held a successful anniversary weekend, Bike - A - Thon and their Tuesday luncheons are having large crowds.  Appreciation was extended to Marni Pedersen for the fun events held on the school Professional Development days.  A musical evening is to be held in January.  A breakfast will be held Dec. 4, 2010 from 8:30 - 10:00.  Moved by Marni Pedersen and seconded by Sheila Anthony that in order to increase membership, they contact Kingston Presbytery Church Development Committee for assistance and meet with them.  Carried.  Volunteers for the committee are Marni Pedersen, Gayle Robertson, Sheila Anthony, Don Coleman, Dawn Sieben and John McDougall.  Also a Mission Support Grant will be applied for in 2012.
