Trinity United Church Committee of Stewards Meeting  May 4, 2010

 

Attendees:

Andy Adamson, Don Coleman, , Glenda Turner, Jane Adamson, Linda Brown, Jennifer Bennett and Connie Shibley and Rachael Henry

A quorum was present.

1.       Call To Order:  Andy Adamson called the meeting to order in the name of Jesus Christ, the one and only Head of the Church at 7:03 pm.

2.       Andy Adamson lead the meeting in the opening prayer.

3.       Approval of Agenda:  Moved by Andy Adamson seconded by Glenda Turner that the agenda be approved.

4.       Minutes:  Moved by Linda Brown and seconded by Glenda Turner that the April 6, 2010 minutes be accepted as written.

5.       Business Arising:

a)      Report on Scout banquet: Jennifer Bennett had coordinated the banquet on April 24 with assistance from Connie Shibley.  Additional members of the Stewards committee assisted by preparing and serving food.  Jennifer Bennett reported that the banquet hosted 48 attendees and had raised $404.00.

 

b)      Report on water conditioner:  Don Coleman advised he will follow up with repairs in the next week.

 

c)      Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities for 2011.  Andy Adamson reported he had received information from Rev. Linda Price for review.  He will share this information at the next committee meeting.

 

d)      Plans for pie sale:  The pie sale will be held May 8.  Jane Adamson, Rachael Henry and Linda Brown will attend.  Members of the congregation have signed up to prepare 47 pies.

 

e)   May 16 social hour:  A celebration honouring the birth of Jocelyn Tryon will be held during the social hour.  The Stewards Committee members will provide refreshments including cupcakes.

 

f)   Planter Barrels:  Information had been received from the Verona Community Association regarding the planter barrel initiative and a sign up sheet will be completed.  A collection will be taken up after the church service on May 9 for planting materials.  The planter barrel must be complete by June 10th. 

 

 

6.       Treasurer’s Report:  Moved by Don Coleman and seconded by Jane Adamson that the treasurer’s report be accepted as presented.  Jane suggested that a reminder be given to the congregation to make payments for Observer magazine subscriptions.

8.       Correspondence: 

a)      A letter was received from Eileen Van Der Zam of St. Paul’s United thanking Trinity for the use of the church hall while there own was under repairs. 

9.       Maintenance and Renovations:  none.

10.   New Business: 

a)      Plant Sale:  Jennifer Bennett will coordinate the plant sale held at the farmer’s market May 22 from 8 am to 1 pm. Donated plants can be given to Jennifer ahead of time or brought to the market on that day at 8 am

b)      Theatre or Wine tour:  Jennifer Bennett had investigated the option of attending a theatre performance; however there were no suitable plays at theatres who provided group discounts.  Jennifer had also investigated the possibility of coordinating a tour of wineries in Prince Edward County as a summer fundraiser.  Jennifer will discuss the interest in this event with the Session committee to determine whether it is a viable fundraising activity

c)      Whale of a Sale:  Linda Brown had received flyers from Sharon Sole advertising the sale on May 29th.  Linda circulated a sign up list for committee members to post flyers in the community.

d)      Anniversary Luncheon June 13:  John MacDougall and Glenda Turner will organize the anniversary celebration.  A letter will be sent to members of the congregation in late May, and Don Coleman will prepare a special anniversary offering envelope to be included.  A sign up sheet will be placed in the back of the church for assistance at the luncheon.

e)      United Church 85th Anniversary:  Linda Brown has been in contact with a representative from High Park United Church in Sarnia to coordinate sharing between the congregations.  They have agreed for the Sunday school class to prepare letter to share.  In addition a collection of photos, newsletters, and a taped choir performance will be sent to High Park.

11. Next Meeting:  June 1, 2010 at 7 pm in the memorial room.
